In 2020, current U.S. Senate candidate Cheri Beasley lost her run for Supreme Court Justice by 412 votes—out of 5.2 million. When asked which voter groups needed to be mobilized for her campaign this November, Cheri Beasley said “rural black voters, particularly in northeastern North Carolina.”

  • NC is now the southernmost state East of the Mississippi that still provides abortion access. That will remain so if Governor Cooper’s veto stands (Republicans need only two seats in the state Senate and three in the House to override his veto and institute their promised abortion restrictions).

  • Reproductive health, voter access, gun control, police reform, housing, and many other issues deeply affect people’s everyday lives. How these issues are decided comes down to which party controls the legislature in 2022 and beyond. In North Carolina, right now, Republicans are perilously close to a supermajority that can override Governor Cooper’s veto.

  • Most elections in NC are won by less than 1%. In 2020, current U.S. Senate candidate Cheri Beasley lost her run for Supreme Court Justice by 412 votes—out of 5.2 million.
