Take Action

STATES MATTER — NOW MORE THAN EVER

Our work is year-round. It requires a thoughtful, sustained effort to become educated, identify priorities, and develop strong relationships with grassroots organizers and national organizations that are on the ground. In 2026 we will continue to work in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. Learn more about Lean Left’s 2026 Strategy and how you can get involved.

Lean Left connects Vermont activists with meaningful ways to protect voters' rights, engage and educate voters, and get the vote out. We welcome individuals as well as groups. If you are a member of a group that would like more information about the importance of working in swing states, check out our States Matter proposal and schedule a Lean Left presentation for your group. More information can be found here.

What are the most effective actions? A Look at Lean Left Actions—Now through November 2026

Power Hour —
Where the work gets done!
Sundays 4:00-6:00 PM

“Camaraderie," is how one volunteer described what she found at the Lean Left Power Hour. We gather every Sunday to make calls, share our experiences, and find support during these tough times.

Come and see for yourself. We provide you with resource materials and training. You’ll learn about why we’re making these calls, how to use the dialing tool, best practices for handling the script, and more. The most important thing you’ll learn? You’re not alone!

See below for current Power Hour actions.

Wisconsin

Spring Election

State Supreme Courts are essential for protecting the rights of voters. Although we don’t generally work in Wisconsin, we will be helping out with this very important election on April 7th.

Phone bank to protect voting & reproductive rights in Wisconsin. The voters on this list are high-support but somewhat inconsistent voters. We’ll provide information for requesting a Vote By Mail (VBM) ballot and encourage them to sign up for absentee voting for the entire year. All you need is your computer; calling platform is Scale to Win (autodialer). Training, scripts, and talking points provided by ActivateAmerica; Tues and Thurs 3-4:30 pm EST. Sign up here.

Virginia

Special Election

Counter balance what MAGA is doing in Texas, North Carolina, and beyond by turning out the vote for the April 21st VA Redistricting Special Election.

  • Call rural VA voters with Rural GroundGame and Red2Blue. We must let voters know that this election is about protecting fair elections. Training provided by Red2Blue; all you need is your computer. Wed 6 pm. Sign up here.

  • Write postcards with Reclaim Our Vote. We’re urging registered Black VA voters to vote Yes to temporarily establish emergency maps to rebalance the field and maintain fairness in our nation’s Congressional elections. You purchase ROV postcards, stamps, and labels. More details can be found here.

A POWER HOUR ACTION

Register PA Voters: In 2024, about 240,000 Democrats were removed from the voting rolls because they didn’t vote in 2020. We want to reach Democrats or Independent voters who are not registered with help and information. We will also listen to what is concerning them this election year. We are teaming up with BlueVote, a premier phone bank group. We’ll be using Scale to Win, an easy calling tool, and provide training. Sign-Up Here.

Other action you can take:

Call PA voters and encourage them to register before the May primary. We will give voters the tools they need to register to vote in time for the primary. All you need is your computer; the calling tool is Scale to Win (autodialer). Full training provided during Power Hour, Sundays at 4 pm. Sign up here.

Write to low-information, unregistered folks in PA. Our messages will focus on the impact of the policies their Congressional representative supports but that are bad for Pennsylvanians. You supply the postcards, stamps, and labels (for a QR-code); Field Team 6 supplies the script, instructions and addresses (be sure to select PA!). Mail as you write. Create your account, or sign in, here.

A POWER HOUR ACTION

Have a Conversation with NC voters. Down Home NC is bringing the voices of multiracial, multigenerational working class people to the political table. If you have a talent for listening and want to make a deeper connection than can be found with traditional voter outreach, this project is for you. Sundays at 4 pm. Sign up here for more information.

Other actions you can take:

In-person canvassing in North Carolina. Talking with voters early and often about their local legislative candidates will turn out votes for this year's top of the ticket: Democrat Roy Cooper, running to flip a U.S. Senate seat, and Democrat Anita Earls, who is running to retain her seat on the NC Supreme Court, currently controlled by the GOP. Canvass April 9-12; limited housing available. Indicate your interest and find more information here.

Write News Boosting Postcards to North Carolinians. Help combat disinformation and make sure voters in North Carolina learn how harmful the Trump/GOP agenda is for them (be sure to select NC from the list of states). Postcards, addresses, instructions are free with a minimum order of 100; you provide the stamps. More information and signup here.
