Knit Democracy Together presents Representing All Voices: Gerrymandering and Ranked Choice Voting

  • Warren, Vermont Warren Public Library Warren, VT (map)

Artist and former election lawyer Eve Jacobs-Carnahan will start off with some background on the Knit Democracy Together project, and then we’ll explore the mechanics of gerrymandering, learn how it distorts the voting power of groups in the community, and uncover how it affects all Americans, regardless of where they live. As a counterbalance, Eve will present an overview of ranked choice voting, a system used in more than 40 jurisdictions in the U.S, which increases the representative nature of electoral system and decreases polarization.

During the presentation, you’ll be able to stitch pieces of a collaborative banner about democracy!
