Lean Left Vermont got its start as a Central Vermont-based group of activists who came together after the 2016 election through a shared desire to undo the Republican hold on our country. Operating on the belief that we could support state-level and Congressional candidates outside Vermont, we grew from a core group of 7 local activists to more than 500 statewide activists to date. We’ve expanded our work to include support of critical issues like voting rights and ending gerrymandering because we recognize that equal and fair access to the ballot box is how we elect candidates who will protect our most vulnerable and fix our broken system.
Lean Left’s mission is to empower Vermont activists to help elect Democratic and Progressive candidates elsewhere in the United States. We promote meaningful, sustained actions that support our mission of flipping seats from red to blue, or keeping seats blue, at the state and federal levels.
How do we do that?
We identify specific opportunities for engagement, with an emphasis on actions that are high impact and well-aligned with Vermont activists’ interests and skills.
We provide training, tools, resources, and support for Vermont activists for some of the most common ways we can support other states:
We coordinate with and connect Vermont activists, and activist groups, to ensure maximum impact with respect to the Lean Left mission.
We partner with local, state, and national organizations whose issues-based actions support voting rights, voter registration, voter education, fair redistricting, and any efforts that will improve access to the ballot box.
